The Bridlington Model Railway Society was formed in 1982 by a group of model railway enthusiasts who wanted to meet on a regular basis to share ideas and model-making skills, and to build “exhibition standard” model railway layouts.

As well as meeting to construct model railway layouts in various scales, the Society also arranges outings to areas of specific railway interest and to model railway exhibitions around the country.

Regular exhibitions have been held by the BMRS over the years at venues in Bridlington, featuring layouts built by the club members and some “visiting” layouts from other model railway clubs around the country. These exhibitions were generally held over the Bank Holiday periods and were very popular both with residents and tourists.

However, recent major changes within the Society, as well as hugely increased costs for the venues normally used, have caused difficulties in the staging of these exhibitions. Hopefully, increases in our membership will help to overcome these difficulties.

Having had a number of changes in meeting places over the years, the original Bridlington Model Railway Society now meets within an arched property, rented from Network Rail, close to Bridlington railway station.

During our 25th anniversary year in 2007, a number of members resigned from the Society and have formed a new group – the Bridlington Area Model Railway and Train Enthusiasts Society (BARMATES).
